BLOCKS
After a few lessons, some of the kids started the ~fun~ part - to code their characters and start making them move. Most of the kids knew how to do the basic "stuff" on their own - they were able to code their buttons and their image sprites. After this part, all of the kids started to ask for help ALL AT ONCE, which was a pretty stressful experience. Some of them needed help with moving their sprites around, some needed help with arranging their buttons...... If multiple students had the same problem, I would try and make sure that they would group together and look at how to solve the problem, and if they were stuck they could ask for help together. It was actually pretty fun to see them figure out how to solve it themselves - they would talk amongst themselves, agree, then disagree, then agree, then try it out, the go "see I told you so!", and repeat the cycle all over again. It actually made me a little nostalgic, as it reminded me of when I first started to code.
After a while other students caught up and had the same problems as the students who were ahead of them, so I would get them to help each other to make sure that both understood what happening. It was amazing to see how far the students progressed from paintpot to making their own games and starting to build up their skills.
