LAST CLASS (2018)
The CCA was planned for one semester so today marked the last class of the school year. Most of the students finished the creation of their games, whether it was their own creation or an upgraded version of a tutorial. This allowed for differentiation across skill levels. The focus of this class was for students to explain how their game worked and the difficulties they faced through the process - the finished products and the videos can be found here!
Reflecting on the past two years of the App class, I think I've not only experienced how to become a teacher and mentor, but also realised how critical the role of senior students are as role models to Primary school students. A culture of learning and camaraderie was created as we bonded with the students over small jokes and words. A memorable moment was when one student asked me what "lmao" meant! Other students asked questions about Secondary and whether I was paid to teach them. It was these moments that made this CCA not only an after school activity, but a time to make friends and, most importantly, to have fun!
The culminating event for the last class was food and presentations of certificates to celebrate. I'd advise future teachers and student mentors to print certificates because it congratulated the students for their hard work and time! Hope you had a good time reading through these posts and hopefully they helped you as you think about the process of creating app classes for kid by kids! :)
See you next year?
